Support for Care Leavers

The 探花社区 is committed to supporting care leavers on their journey into higher education and throughout their time at university, so that you can get the best out of your university experience and reach your full potential.  If you are aged between 16 and 17 and have been looked after by the Local Authority for at least 13 weeks since the age of 14 and are still either being looked after or have left care after your 16th birthday, you may be eligible for additional support.

What support can I expect as a Care Leaver and a student at the 探花社区?

Our Disability and Wellbeing Team or equivalent at partner sites are available for bookable appointments to discuss your needs and any support you may need while studying with us. This can include advice on:

  • applying for a Care Leavers Bursary and the eligibility criteria required.
  • managing your wellbeing, stress and anxiety while studying.
  • signposting to academic support.
  • accommodation available to students and any local arrangements for Care Leavers and Care Experienced continuing students.
  • signposting to a Student Life Mentor (Ipswich Campus)

For more information on support available to care leavers at the 探花社区, speak to the Student Centre in person or by raising a ticket in Minerva.

The 探花社区 participates in the National Network for the Education of Care Leavers eastern region group to provide opportunities and support for care experienced and care leavers to progress to university. We offer dedicated outreach through our Uniconnect partnership (NEACO), an annual residential programme (14-18 years) in partnership with UEA and NUA, application support and drop-in sessions for university offer holders to offer advice and support on starting university.
